General Powermeter FAQs

What is the difference between a PRECISION Powermeter and a Podiiiium Powermeter?

The main differences between Precision and Podiiiium is the weight and the battery life. The  PRECISION line is coin cell battery operated lasting about 100 hours, and weighs in at 9 grams. The Podiiiium line is rechargeable lasting about 60 hours and weighs in at 7 grams, re-charging time is approx. 2 hours.

How do I get a Powermeter?

Powermeters can be ordered from our 4iiii.com website or from our authorized resellers.

You can purchase your Powermeter in two ways:

  1. Factory Install: Send us your crank arm, we will install the powermeter and return it to you.
  2. Ride Ready: Powermeters already installed on new Shimano crank arms.

How does Factory Install work? Is there an additional fee?

  1. Place your order online.
  2. We will send you instructions to confirm you have sufficient clearance for the power meter.
  3. We will send you a pre-paid FedEx shipping label.
  4. You send us your crank.
  5. Your installed the power meter will be promptly shipped back to you.  Installation takes us 3-6 business days with shipping time usually 2-4 days in either direction depending where you are in the world.
  6. You pay for return shipping, VAT and duty.

International customers may be required to pay taxes and duties (such as VAT) assessed by their government. Our carrier will charge a convenience fee for paying duties and taxes at the time of import, and pass the fee along to customers.

What is the wait time before I can send in my crank for a Factory Install? How long does the install take?

We’re normally ready to receive your crank arm a few days after you place your order.  If you haven’t heard from us, please contact cranks@4iiii.com

Upon receiving your crank we need 3-6 days to complete the installation.

What about self-install?

Our engineers continue to strive for this goal but won’t compromise performance for convenience. Stay tuned for updates.

Is the installation on the left crank arm permanent? I may eventually change my crank.

Installation  requires laser removal of some surface material under the powermeter.  Removal of the power meter will expose that area and also destroy the unit.  It is not transferable to another crank arm. Removal would void the warranty.

How do I prepare my crank arm for shipment?

Our digital ship kit includes information on how to check for sufficient clearance, and how to mark your preferred installation position. Please take care in noting the size of package used for shipping the crank (found in the ship kit information) as extra charges may be applied for unnecessarily large packaging. We ask that Shimano crank owners remove the two pinch bolts and plastic retention clip from their crank before sending it. Cannondale crank owners should remove the crank arm fixing bolt from the crank arm before shipping.

Which cranks are compatible with 4iiii Powermeters?

Both models are currently compatible with most aluminum crank arms and select carbon with flat surfaces on the inside of the left crank arm. A full compatibility list is available here.

Are your powermeters upgradeable?

Yes! PRECISION is over-the-air upgradable.  We will continue to provide improvements and additional features in the form of firmware updates. You can install these updates using our 4iiii App (available for current iOS and Android devices).

How long is the warranty?

All 4iiii products have a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase

What bikes are compatible with your powermeter?

Our powermeters require 10mm of clearance between the crank arm and the nearest bike component. A simple test can be checking if a AAA battery fits between your crank and your frame. Clearance isn’t an issue for most customers, but some frames do have tight clearance demanding particular attention when marking the installation location. Customers with bikes having bottom-bracket mounted brakes may have clearance issues. If you are unsure of fit after following the instructions in your digital ship kit, you can request that we send you a dummy pod to ensure that you have enough space.
